The week in Review: 18-24 June 2017 0

Unicorns, Tea and Coffee. That should keep the Winter away.

This is our first weekly review post, where we will cover all the cool things that we've seen, and round up some of the topics that you might have missed.

The week has been insanely cold and it feels like South Africa has had a proper winter for the first time in a couple of years. That's why our focus has been on hot drinks, barring a couple of nifty videos and recipes here and there.

Unicorns and cheesecake make a pretty cool combo

First up, we saw the most colourful cheesecake to date, called the "Unicorn Cheesecake". Tasty made an awesome video to show you how simple it is to make it in your own kitchen. Have a look and try it out. If you manage to pull it off, show us in the comments section.

Tea, Glorious Tea

Then we started looking at a couple of warm drinks to keep you warm during the brisk workdays and ice cold nights. Tea Answers had a nifty fact sheet about tea that you might not have known about. How many of the 51 facts did you know before reading the article? Check it out HERE. Of course, we wouldn't leave you high and dry, and without the appropriate gadgets to make a nice, warm cup of tea. Have a look at our collection of cast-iron traditional Eastern teapots, or if you'd like a broader range of options, see all of our tea products HERE.

Get your Caffeine Fix

We can't really cover tea and not give a shout-out to the mother of all warm drinks, coffee. Buzzfeed had a really cool article covering 22 facts about the drink, aiming to teach you more about your favourite work fuel. Once again, we've got you covered with awesome coffee products so that you can keep your brain awake. Have a look at our range HERE.

That should about cover everything that we've seen this week. Check back again next week for a run-down of all the cool things we come across. In the meantime, check out our online store, or our Facebook page for more info and articles.

Reviews Competition: May 2017 0

Our review competitions have been going really well so far, so we've decided to make them a monthly thing for the interim! That means that as long as the review competitions are running, you get to enter the draw once a month to win some amazing kitchen gadgets and equipment.

What's up for grabs this month?

A set of 6 Mencia Tempered Wine Glasses (310ml), which is 5 times stronger than regular wine glasses.

Why reviews? Simple, really.

Reviews are more than just someone's opinion on a product or an experience. Instead of just taking what a brand or company are telling shoppers about the product, reviews can tell a shopper what their peers thought of it while they were using it. All the good bits, all the bad ones too. We'd like to know more about what your experiences with our products, overall service, delivery and online store are, and we'd like to give you a chance of winning something cool while doing so.

This is how it'll work

Firstly, you could rate our overall service, delivery or online store by leaving a rating on our Facebook Page, because this is a good indicator of how we are doing and is the most relevant place to do something like this.

Secondly, if you have bought a specific product from us, or have experience with that product, leave a product review on our online store. Not only will you be sharing your opinion on the product, but you'll also be helping out other Kitchen Junkys with making a decision before they buy it.

You only have to do one of either of the above to gain an entry into the draw.

An additional rule for this month is that only reviews published during the month of April will give you an entry into the draw.

It is that simple.

The nitty-gritty parts

The competition runs until midnight on the 31th of April 2017. All reviews that are eligible for the competition has to be submitted before then. The draw will take place on the 1st of June 2017 (or the closest business day after that date) and the winner will be contacted before the announcement. Standard terms and conditions apply, and can be found here.

Thanks for reading, and Good Luck!

Our Reviews competition is live! 0

We like giving things away to our Kitchen Junkys, but it is even sweeter when something great happens in the process. We've built a little competition around creating user reviews on our website and Facebook page, putting a set of 6 Elytium Gold Rodio Tempered Wine Glasses on the line for one lucky winner.

Why reviews? Simple, really.

Reviews are more than just someone's opinion on a product or an experience. Instead of just taking what a brand or company are telling shoppers about the product, reviews can tell a shopper what their peers thought of it while they were using it. The nitty-gritty parts

The competition runs until midnight on the 30th of April 2017. All reviews that are eligible for the competition has to be submitted before then. The draw will take place on the 1st of May 2017 and the winner will be contacted before the announcement. Standard terms and conditions apply, and can be found here.

Why we don't do Free Shipping anymore 0

We're all for free stuff, but sometimes things are just too good to be true.

Free shipping isn't as free as it is made out to be. Somewhere along the line, someone has to pay for it. Normally with online stores, the store would work out some complicated formula to hide the costs of the shipping in the price of the products that you buy, which is actually pretty sneaky. Not so free after all then. Even worse, when you buy lots of products in one order, you could possibly end up paying more than the shipping cost that would have been charged to that order.

This is why we've decided that we're going to keep the prices of our products unpadded & low, and charge a reasonable shipping price so that you know exactly what you pay for. We'll still run a couple of promos here and there for free shipping, but ultimately we want you to get the most bang for your buck when shopping with us.

Thanks for reading!

The Kitchen Junky team

Now you can shop 'By Cuisine'. 0

Someone here at Kitchen Junky gets paid to sit and think about cool things that we can do with our online store. Today, that person thought about something to do again, and here is what he/she (me) came up with - shopping for utensils and gadgets based on the cuisine that they are used to cook with.

How to reach the 'By Cuisine' section

We are trying to make it really easy for our online shoppers to find the utensils and gadgets that they are looking for, especially if they need it to cook a specific dish.

While our online store is easier to navigate than the Buccleah Interchange, we do try to make it easier with each version of the store. By using the navigation bar at the top of the page, head to 'Brands & Collections', and choose a specific cuisine from the 'By Cuisine' column. By clicking on an option, products will filter based on the cuisine that you chose.

As we said, simple. Let us know if there are more features that you would like to see appear on the online store and we'll see what we can do to make it happen.

New features on the Kitchen Junky Store 0

We have a lot of fun doing what we do at Kitchen Junky, and we want you to have fun on our site too. Just in time for the holiday shopping season, we've made it easier for you to explore our catalogue and shop online with us, because we like easy, fun experiences. Here's what we've been doing over the last couple of weeks:

Mobile shopping experience

We can see that you like your smartphones and tablets, by monitoring what type of traffic comes to the Kitchen Junky store. Our site is now completely smartphone and tablet friendly, from account creation to secure checkout. You don't even have to leave your couch to get amazing kitchen gadgets delivered to your door (why would you want to leave your couch in the first place?).

Browse our catalogue on Facebook

Facebook is a pretty big place, and incidentally also where we take a lot of time to speak to our customers. For this reason, we made a plan to add our entire catalogue to our Facebook shop, so that you can browse through all of our kitchen gadgets without leaving the site. By clicking on a product in our Facebook store, you can head straight to our checkout process, fuss-free.

Have questions?

Everyone has questions before, during and after buying something online. We've added a Facebook Messaging button to the bottom right of our online store so that you could ask us anything while doing your shopping. Shoot us a question if you have one, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can (normally very quickly). You could even just send us a message to find out how we're doing, if you'd like.

Account visibility

Shopping online at Kitchen Junky is all about you. We've made the 'My Account' button more visible, so that you can manage your orders and information easily. Go have a look!

Safe, secure shopping

We don't like risk (unless you mean the board game, because we like that a lot). We don't keep any of your credit card information, opting instead to use one of South Africa's most trusted payment gateway partners, PayFast. Their secure payment gateway is trusted by many, including us, to handle payments without skollies trying to get your money. If you don't want to use a credit card to pay for your orders, choose our EFT option instead. Our online store features full encryption, so that your info is protected from the scourge of the internet.

Makeover

Our online store has had a little makeover (she's growing up so fast!). We've decreased our banner size and made our products more visible, so that you can immediately see our awesome range of kitchen equipment without browsing around too much.

We hope that you enjoy these features as much as we enjoyed putting them in place. Check back regularly for more updates from our team!
